What is Cervical Cancer?

Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the cervix — the lower part of the uterus (womb) that connects to the vagina.
Example: Imagine the cervix as a small doorway between the uterus and vagina. When abnormal cells grow there and are not controlled, they form cervical cancer.

Causes of Cervical Cancer

  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV): The most common cause.

  • Multiple pregnancies at young age

  • Weakened immune system

  • Poor hygiene and smoking

  • Lack of regular medical checkups

Prevention of Cervical Cancer

✔️ HPV Vaccination – The best way to protect against cervical cancer.
✔️ Safe lifestyle – Avoid smoking, maintain hygiene.
✔️ Regular screenings – Pap smear tests can detect early cell changes.
✔️ Healthy diet & immunity – Boost your body’s defense system.

Treatment of Cervical Cancer

  • Early Stage: Surgery or laser treatment to remove abnormal cells.

  • Advanced Stage: Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or combined treatment.

  • Palliative care: For pain relief and quality of life in late stages.

HPV Vaccination

The HPV vaccine protects women from the virus that causes most cervical cancers. It works best when given before a girl becomes sexually active (usually between ages 9–15).
